For Introduction, maybe I want to give briefly explanation about this things. Minilink is a kind of antenna, which is produced by Ericsson. Ericsson's Minilink 4-MMU, have a capacity up to 4 E1. It means the total traffic that can be carried by this device is about 4 x 2.048 Mbps. This device is used to connect between two Network Element in Mobile Communication System such as BTS to BTS. It operate in 7GHz frequency, with the diameter 0.6m, Gain=7dB, with maximum hoop=12 km
This is the shape of Ericsson's Minlink
The installation process consists of several steps and tests:
1
We have to install Minilink antenna according to the site planning. In one hoop, we need
2 antenna to build a Transmission link. So there are two site (tower) have to be installed with this antenna. In the picture below, you can see that the antenna is kind of radome antenna with mounted RAU (power amplifier). After we have installed the antenna, then we have to connect the cable on it
2
Connect the cable (from antenna) to the MMU (modem) in door unit. It's kind of
modem which can transfer up to 8 Mbps. (4 E1). MMU has several ports, choose the coax port
3
Connect the MMU to the power supply. Caution: "we have to make sure the voltage phase, in order not to be reversed
4
Configure the site name, frequency carrier (Tx and Rx), power transmit, and sensitivity from the software interface. Note that this whole process (1 - 4) is done on the both site
5
After both site have been configured and UP. Now we can check and set the azimuth and elevation of the antenna, in order to get good clearance factor and the best power receive. We can monitor the receive power from software interface
6
We can also measure the voltage (power) level directly on the antenna using AVO meter
7
After the optimum power transmit and receive have been obtained, we can do Bit Error Rate test using BER meter. BER test can be done on one site, but we have to loop back MMU traffic in the other site (see the picture below). So we get the actual traffic that we have to measure
if the BER Transmission requirement is about 10^(-
, and the equipment capacity is 8.192 Mbps. Then we have to measure it for at least, 12.5 second in order to achieve the correct measurement. Longer we measure, then better measurement can be achieved
